With governments across the world relying on businesses to generate jobs, business growth coaching has never been more important.
In the UK, the new government sponsored business growth programme goes live in 2012, but what makes a great High Growth Coach?
Exponential has been researching this very question since 2007. In October last year, Exponential was joined by five European Partners each with a strong interest in High Growth Coaching. As a result of this work, funded by the Leonardo Transfer of Innovation programme, the partners have been able to construct a High Growth Coach Competency Framework.
The framework includes a set of competences covering all aspects of High Growth Coaching. It is organised into three levels (Specialist Knowledge and Capability, High Growth Coaching Competencies and Professional Behaviours). Each level is further subdivided, providing a comprehensive and practical framework.
“One of the interesting findings to emerge from observing and consulting with over 250 business coaches, businesses and specialist High Growth Coaching providers is the multi-faceted role of the High Growth Coach. Coaching is just one of six distinct roles that we observed High Growth Coaches undertaking – the others being that of a broker, a consultant, a facilitator, an advisor and a trainer” said Exponential Training Managing Director, John Moore.
The framework will eventually be used to develop an assessment tool and subsequently to underpin a development programme for aspiring High Growth Coaches in Europe. “We are now seeking feedback on the framework, before finalising it and moving on to the next stage of development. We would welcome people’s feedback, although I have a feeling it might upset the purist coaches of this world!” John added.
The closing date for feedback has closed.
