South Africa Membership Goes Live!

South Africa Membership Goes Live!
26 April 2011 John Moore

Over 300 South African managers and consultants have applied to be members of the South African Chapters of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and the Institute of Consulting (IC) in the first month.

Speaking at the national launch event, the British High Commissioner for South Africa, Andrew Henderson, talked of the importance of bi-lateral trade links between the UK and South Africa. He added that the Exponential, CMI, IC and Services Seta partnership is exactly the type of partnership he wants to support.

CMI’s Director of Awarding Body & International Development, Narinder Uppal, who arrived in Johannesburg literally hours before the launch event, explained how delighted she was that CMI had been able to support the Service SETA’s strategy to create a community of professional managers and consultants.

Exponential Managing Director, John Moore, announced at the launch that Exponential had mapped 30 South African management and consulting qualifications against the Institute’s membership criteria. “This means that South African qualifications are now recognised internationally for membership of the two professional bodies. We can recognise people’s prior learning and grant membership at member and fellow grades”. To find out if you hold one of these qualifications, check the list of recognised qualifications (CMIIC) and apply for one of the Services SETA funded memberships.

In a busy week, Directors John and Michelle Moore took part in a series of road show events for Skills Development Facilitators organised by Sheldon Pillay from the Services SETA. “I was amazed   at the level of interest in both the membership offer and the development programmes we are running later in the year for Skills Development Facilitators – we had over 100 applications from the first two events” said Michelle.

Since the launch in April, Gizelle Hutchinson, Chamber Manager at the Services SETA and Namrata Tanna, International Membership Officer, have been inundated with membership applications. “I wasn’t expecting quite so many applications, but it shows just how much South African managers and consultants want to take part in professional development”, said Namrata.
