After nearly three years in development including six national pilot tests in the middle of the COVID19 pandemic, Exponential Training and its partners are pleased to announce a series of awareness events designed to help you to Take the LEAP.
Taking the LEAP
Being first is always a challenge, but that did not stop eager learners from the UK, Ireland, Portugal, Austria, Cyprus and Greece and teacher/ trainers from using the newly developed LEAP learning and assessment platform. In total, just under 450 learners completed vocational learning programmes in 43 different courses in six countries using four languages- they were supported by over 40 teacher/trainers and moderators.
Despite the COVID19 pandemic, the LEAP project partners developed, and pilot tested the on-line learning and assessment platform LEAP. In Cyprus, it proved to be a lifeline as the pilot test coincided with the country’s first lockdown – LEAP enabled Cypriot training experts, DEKAPLUS to deliver new courses which were about to start with 75 learners, six assessors and 50 different units.
Exponential Training which developed the LEAP concept – Learn, Engage, Apply and Perform – registered and supported over 140 learners working towards one its Chartered Management Institute qualifications. Exponential Training Management Director, John Moore said:
“The purpose of LEAP was always to improve the impact of learning by enabling learners to focus on the learning and to transfer it into the workplace rather than on assessment. Whilst we had faith in the design of LEAP, we did not expect the pilot test to be conducted under such challenging circumstances. It is a testament to the design and simplicity of LEAP that it worked so well.”
Throughout the 18-month pilot test, the Exponential Training team has supported over 140 learners working towards twenty different Chartered Management Institute qualifications from Level 3 Coaching and Mentoring to Level 7 Strategic Leadership and Management. In total, the team has assessed over 850 units comprising 3,400 Learning Outcomes enabling managers, coaches, and consultants to develop their careers.
In 2020, the Greek software development company, BEST Cybernetics, also developed the platform’s moderation functionality. The new, streamlined moderation process means that Exponential’s moderators can sample assessment decisions, learner’s work and the quality of Exponential’s learning programmes from start to finish.
The pandemic also enabled Exponential to implement a series of creative assessment methodologies as well. During the lockdown, all coaching and assessment meetings between learners and assessors took place on-line which is not unusual for Exponential Training. However, the Exponential Training team implemented a series of flexible assessment methodologies including assessed presentation delivered on-line. In advance of the on-line assessment, Quality and Moderation Manager, Anne-Marie Daly, defined the conditions under which the on-line presentations would be delivered. The assessment involved two leading employers from the East Midlands and 15 managers in the exercise – everyone was successful and will receive their Chartered Management Institute qualification certificates this month. Although new and still being developed, LEAP has proven itself with learners, teacher/trainers and training organisations across Europe. The aim going into 2021 is to further develop LEAP and to explore how more employers, colleges and training organisations can use LEAP to make a ‘step-change’ to the impact of their vocational training and assessment programmes.
