How to Improve Performance
Exponential Training and several of its European partners are working on a new approach to work-based coaching called C-MAP. C-MAP is based on the concept of high-performance work practices (HPWP) and the use of work-based coaching. The results will be available for Exponential customers to use to improve their own performance by late 2020.
High-Performance Work Practices
The strategic importance of human resource management and its impact on the performance of enterprises has created substantial interest within academic, enterprises and human resource development practitioners. This interest is focused on the potential of so-called ‘high-performance work practices’ (HPWPs) to act as a unique, sustainable resource supporting the implementation of corporate strategy and the achievement of operational goals.
HPWPs is a set of management practices designed to create an environment where employees have greater involvement and responsibility. They combine human resource practices, work structures, and processes designed to leverage employee knowledge, skill, and alignment to the organisation. They are a set of coherent and consistent practices that see people as a source of competitive advantage. They empower managers and employees, to improve personal and organisational efficiency and performance.
The main components of HPWPs in organisations involve:
· Training, learning, and development
· Employee involvement, sharing of information, and listening to the ‘workers’ voice’
· Supporting team working/self-managed teams
· Recognising people’s contribution and performance
HPWPs are not based on control, but on employee autonomy, decision-making and responsibility. Their use typically leads to a highly motivated, skilled, and empowered workforce. Organisations that use HPWPs typically benefit from reduced employee turnover and increased productivity and performance.
In the Erasmus+ funded project, Exponential and its European partners are developing a coaching system that will enable manages to implement a coaching approach to the use of HPWPs. The coaching system will be based on a simple, but powerful concept called Coaching MAPs. C-MAPs will provide managers with a toolkit of C-MAP coaching sessions which they can use to support and develop their team’s performance. The toolkit is expected to be ready for use late 2020.
