Top Marks for Triple Bottom-line Course

A team of specialist trainers and consultants trained by Exponential Training are busy working with wineries and vineyards in eight European countries as part of the Usewine Erasmus+ project.

Their aim is quite simply – to help wine businesses to implement a sustainability strategy whilst impacting positively on performance and profits.

Triple Bottom-line Training Course

The triple bottom-line is a business model that encourages businesses to look not just at the bottom-line in terms of profit, but also in terms of the planet and people. Last year, Exponential Training along with nine Partners from eight European countries developed the Usewine Triple Bottom-line Model and a diagnostic tool. Using the diagnostic tool, the Usewine partners undertook a major research exercise looking at the sustainability practices of Europe’s wineries and vineyards – to obtain a free copy of the report, click here.

Following the research, Exponential Trainers John Moore, Alexandra Johnson and Anne-Marie Daly designed and delivered an intensive 5 day training course to a team of trainers and consultants. The aim of the training was to enable the consultants to work with local vineyards and wineries to implement the Usewine Triple Bottom-line Model. The consultants are now recruiting or in some instances already working with vineyards and wineries throughout the UK, Poland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Romania, Cyprus and France helping to improve their 'triple bottom-line'.

The training course included the use of case studies, practical exercises and knowledge sessions as well as a trip to a local Cypriot vineyard. I am delighted with the evaluation of the training course. We benchmarked everyone’s knowledge and level of confidence across 26 criteria both before and after the course.

Course Evaluation

The top five areas of impact on knowledge about the use of the triple bottom-line model were:

  1. How to make the business case for the Triple Bottom-line (+173.5%)
  2. How to analyse the key activities involved at each stage of the consulting cycle (+144.1%)
  3. How to identify the risks that may occur at each stage of the consulting cycle (+131.7%)
  4. How to evaluate a range of tools a Triple Bottom-line consultant may use in defining client needs (+125.5%)
  5. How to assess the purpose of Triple Bottom-line project planning and management (+116.3%).

Nearly all of the trainers and consultants were new to the concept of the 'triple bottom-line' and for this reason, their levels of confidence was also benchmarked across the 26 areas. The evaluation showed that confidence levels increased across all 26 criteria with the biggest increases being:

  1. Make the business case for the Triple Bottom-line (+95.8%)
  2. Assess the purpose of Triple Bottom-line project planning and management (+81.5%)
  3. Identify the risks that may occur at each stage of the consulting cycle (+72.5%)
  4. Analyse the key activities involved at each stage of the consulting cycle (+70.6%)
  5. Explain the role of the Triple Bottom-line Consultant (+66.9%)
  6. Present Triple Bottom-line proposals to clients (+63.3%)
