The Euros, Brexit and Vardy?

There are two major competitions being played out in Europe right now. There is the Euro 2016 football competition and then there is the EU BREXIT referendum. But why might Jamie Vardy be the key to both?

Jamie Vardy – the key?

There can be no doubt the EU debate is complex and most people have an opinion. Some say we need to leave and others say we must stay.

Likewise, many (interested in our national football teams) have an opinion on who should play in our national football team. With England, some say Kane and Rooney should be our strikers; some say let’s try Rashford and Sturridge; and others say it should be Vardy and Kane.

The problem is that based on the assumptions we all make and what we think and believe, we are all right. So how can we make sure we get it right? This is where Jamie Vardy comes to our rescue just like he did against Wales.

The Vardy Strategy

The secret to Jamie Vardy and Leicester City's success in the Premiership this season can be attributed to two things: leadership and planning. All season, Leicester City used and was committed to a simple, clear plan that Vardy and co executed week in-week out. The players knew what their jobs were, followed the direction and leadership of Claudio Ranieri and then just executed the plan each week.

Yesterday, Vardy under the leadership of Roy Hodgson, executed the same plan he has been following all season – simple and direct. Players need to understand how they can work together and what is expected of them. This is reflected in a simple, clear and easy to follow plan. Vardy knows the plan and when allowed to follow it scores.

The EU Debate

What a mess we have on both sides of the debate. Why? Because neither side appears to have a clear, simple plan for their campaign and for after the referendum. Key figures, like Gove and Farage on one side and Cameron and Benn on the other side each presenting slightly different arguments, plans and proposals. Both sides lack clarity, leadership and direction, hence we have poor plans being poorly executed. The results is confusion and NO WINNERS!

The beauty of the Vardy Solution is simplicity. Everyone including Vardy knows what he is expected to do. Put the ball in the right place and bang – Vardy scores. Impact and performance is the outcome of clarity and simplicity.

KEEP IT CLEAR AND SIMPLE

My message is whatever your goal and whatever your plan, KEEP IT CLEAR and SIMPLE and then do everything you can to EXECUTE IT.  Confusion, change and ineffective leadership costs results and performance.

My challenge to you is to use the Vardy Strategy to achieve something at home or at work TODAY. Decide on your goal, decide on your clear and simple plan and then just execute it. There is real power in PURPOSE and ACTION – If you do not believe me what just watch Vardy scoring his 24 Premier League goals and his 4 goals in 5 matches for England!
