It is always refreshing to hear that qualifications have been reviewed and updated as it confirms that the standard setting body, Skills CfA, has been consulting with employers and key stakeholders to identify current practice.
NVQs in Management
The suite of management and leadership National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) has recently been reviewed and Exponential Training is pleased to be able include the new NVQs in Management to our portfolio of qualifications. These NVQs are awarded by The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and are recognised in the UK and around the world.
What changes have been made to the NVQs?
At Levels 2 and 3 the NVQ competency units remain a large part of the qualification, however some knowledge only units have been developed and added resulting in 'combined qualifications'.
The Level 2 Diploma in Team Leading (QCF) includes two mandatory knowledge units examining the 'Principles of Team Leading' and 'Understanding Business'. There is the opportunity for an optional knowledge unit to be studied which looks at 'Principles of Equality and Diversity in the Workplace'.
Similarly, the Level 3 Diploma in Management (QCF) includes two mandatory knowledge units entitled 'Principles of Leadership and Management' and 'Principles of People Management'.
Who are NVQs aimed at?
Whatever your role in management, whether it is a Team Leader or Supervisor, a First Line or Middle Manger or a Strategic Manager there is an NVQ to support and help develop the skills you use. The NVQs in Management are designed so that you have the opportunity to identify naturally occurring evidence from your workplace thus confirming your competency. They provide the opportunity for you to analyse and improve the processes and techniques you use, helping to make you more efficient and effective in your role.
What are the benefits of completing an NVQ?
- Individual performance and effectiveness improves as new and further developed skills are applied in the workplace
- Promotion and career progression is more achievable for the individual
- Managers develop better leadership skills, resulting in an increased performance of their team
- Employers see increased turnover and profitability; higher productivity and efficiency; reduction in operating costs; improved quality and customer satisfaction; lower staff turnover
